I edited a picture of Patrol Coastal Ships that I served on. I added text bubbles indicating weapons throughout the ship. I used the sketch tool to make the image look like it was hand drawn. I finished the picture by using the highlight tool to make the image more legible.

1. Chart 1 data compares West Virginia NAEP 4th grade Math scores with the national average of this test for the years 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Average scores indicate West Virginia’s average is slightly below the national average in each of the selected years with the exception of 2005 in which the average for the state fell six points below the national average.

2. Graph 2 represents a comparison of percentage of IEP students among four states with the lowest personal per-capita income based on 2000 census data. As indicated, Mississippi actually matches the national average and Arkansas registers a statistic a half of a percentage point lower than the national average. However, New Mexico and West Virginia registered percentages of more than six and just under five respectively above the national average. Data would therefore indicate that factors other than per capita income influence IEP percentages in these states. Moreover, several high income states register higher percentages of IEP students possibly due to larger concentrations of inner city school systems.

Image Capture

I selected a graphic (map) from the web which was related to a US History lesson. The graphic was a GIF file. I utilized the windows Paint Program to alter the graphic by simply redrawing the borders for the selected states, and the text function for the added map legends. I also applied the color fill function for the corresponding states. Normally I would project these on to a screen to reinforce important points in the unit/lesson. In this instance it would be the sequence of events in the states' succession during the winter and spring of 1861 as well as the distinction between slave states which did not succeed and the Confederate States.

Graphic

I chose to use Word and PowerPoint to illustrate a simple display of the course operating organization to date. This graphic was designed to keep me organized and on track of our resources and requirements. I chose Word because I am more familiar with creating graphics/charts in this program more so than others (but I will soon learn them). I tried to upload this Word document into my Google Docs but the upload was unsuccessful. I decided to try to copy and paste my graphic as a PowerPoint slide. I am not very familiar with PowerPoint but after several attempts I was able to save this as a pp document and the upload to Google Docs was successful.

The PowerPoint document is 76.5 KB. I uploaded this graphic to my Google Docs, and the link is below:
